And the best spoof on the election…

Friday, November 7th, 2008

South Park, of course. They gambled everything on the assumption that the Obama camp would win. Well, we all know Obama won, and so did South Park. Hilarious!!!

No one could make fun of both Obama supports, McCain supporters and the whole political process with more accuracy and absurdity! You can watch the FULL episode online, compliments of the folks of South Park studios.

Friends in Chicago on Tuesday night

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Musicians are always looking for a gig and Tuesday evening was no exception. Chicago was where it was at!

Saxophonist Eric Koppa was downtown at Grant Park playing his horn in celebration along with some members from the Prohibition Orchestra of Chicago. He called at 5:30 p.m. that evening to encourage Ann and me to join him in Chicago, but it was too much to pull off. For the record, we looked for you, Eric, but missed you in the crowd.

The Grant Park celebration on election night 2008
Here’s Eric (soprano sax) and his Prohibition Orchestra friends playing in the streets! One million people had to be record audience. Eric says they didn’t have tickets to Grant Park when started, but while they were playing someone gave them all passes. How cool!

What did Chicago look like with one million people in the streets?

Trombonist and former Clyde Stubblefield horn section member, Alex Leong, shared with me his Flickr photos from downtown Chicago on election night. He left Madison and the band late this past summer in search of the Windy City’s greater dreams, challenges and opportunities. It certainly seems Alex found others to share in high hopes and inspiration that night. Thanks for sharing the link, Alex, and best wishes from Madison.

Wednesday, November 5th. A good day…

Friday, November 7th, 2008

After such a long Presidential campaign and historic outcome, Wednesday, November 5th proved to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable days in a long while. In Madison, there was a palpable sense of relief and satisfaction with the election results. It was like an entire community exhaled after holding it’s breath for months.

Sunny weather, temperatures in the low 70’s and steady south winds from 15 to 25 mph made it the perfect day to celebrate by kiteboarding. Possibly the last day this year of such nice weather, about twenty riders assembled at Governor Nelson State Park and enjoyed the shore’s fall colors while ripping it up on Lake Mendota.

I could not have asked for a better way to reflect on our first day with Barack Obama as our new President-elect. God bless America.
