Adam Deitch: Respect for Clyde Stubblefield

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Myspace sometimes really is fun. I submitted a “friend request” to Adam Deitch on behalf of the Clyde Stubblefield Band. If you don’t know who Adam is or have never heard him play, you should. Here’s Adam Deitch’s Drummer World page. He’s a wicked young funk drummer who’s been a member of John Scofield’s recent albums and regular member of Average White Band for sometime.

Here’s Adam’s message to Clyde:

Subject: the MAN
Body: my WHOLE career is based off mr. S.’s beats !!!!!!!!!! U da man!!!

I replied to Adam saying I’m sure he is influencing drummers today the same way that Clyde influenced him and continues to influence others. Mr. Deitch, much respect from all of us here in Madison, Wisconsin. And as always, MAKE IT FUNKY!!!

John Coltrane and Roscoe Mitchell video

Monday, August 27th, 2007

This nice video clip features the journey of John Coltrane’s music evolution, ultimately reaching his late career transition to “free jazz” and all out musical exploration. Quite fittingly, Roscoe Mitchell is highlighted as a saxophonist who was personally influenced by Coltrane’s flight to free jazz. Roscoe is seen here delving into his own experimentation with the saxophone during a session with Moroccan drummers. Very cool!

Thanks, Alex Leong (trombone: Clyde Stubblefield Band), for sharing this video discovery.

Benefit for Charlie Brooks, Sunday, August 12th

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Madison's Soul Man, Mr. Charlie Brooks! Please join the Clyde Stubblefield Band this Sunday, August 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the King Club to help raise funds for our singer, Charlie Brooks.

Charlie has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. He, like many local musicians, has limited or no health insurance and has accumulated significant medical bills in the effort to get well. We hope for the best in his recovery, but we could really use your help in our effort to help Charlie.

What to look forward to at the King Club on Sunday:

  • A live set by the Clyde Stubblefield Band
  • Funky music provided by our favorite funk spinner, DJ Chuck Money
  • A raffle to give away a signed pair of Clyde Stubblefield drum sticks
  • A number of “King Club Cards,” which entitles one to a lifetime of free cover! (now that’s a deal!)

The cover at the door is only $8. From all of us to you, we appreciate your care and support! We’ll see you Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
