Ahh…summer giggin’
Friday, June 23rd, 2006Boy, I’ve had the pleasure of playing some great gigs recently. It’s such a pleasure and honor to share the stage with so many of Madison’s terrific musicians and good people.
Last Saturday Alex (Clyde Band trombone) and I played with Joey B. Banks and his Black and Blues All-Star Band at the Harmony Bar. The gig was great, the band members were terrific and we made some awesome music. It truly was a group of all-stars. Bobby Bryan played guitar, Bruce Alford played bass and Rick Flowers joined in on a second drum set. Major Hamberlin from Milwaukee is always fantastic and is a such a great person and talent. Carolynn Black entertained with her sultry voice. And of course, Joe Banks kept a steady beat behind his own beautiful Yamaha kit.
Yesterday evening offered the Clyde Stubblefield Band a wonderful gig with great weather and fantastic crowd at the Monona Terrace. Last year when we played this gig, the weather didn’t cooperate and we had to play indoors. While still fun, it’s just not the same as being on the rooftop overlooking Lake Monona with the Wisconsin State Capitol rising behind us. So many friends and family were there. Here are just a few. Julie (yeah!) and friends Eric and Jeannie; Steve and Jane Schmiedling (thanks for the photos!); Tom Strader, Anna Paola, Jillian and Luanna; Conga Paula’s sister Dianna; and a zillion kids and their families dancing and having fun. It was just a great evening for everyone and one that makes you appreciate why Madison is such a pleasant place to live. Again, it’s great to play with everyone in Clyde’s band and it was an honor to entertain everyone who us joined at the Terrace last night!
